Agriculture in Mizoram is the primary sector of the state's economy. Agriculture and allied activities contribute 29% to the NSDP of the state and about 60% of the population of the state is engaged in agricultural activities. Rice is the principal crop of Mizoram. A number of crops like paddy, beans, cucumber, maize, arum, sesame, mustard and cotton are grown by practicing jhum or shifting cultivation.
