Dr BK Das, one of the country’s renowned technocrats in the oil sector, has taken over as the new President of the Centre for Development and Peace Studies (CDPS) at a meeting of the think tank’s Board of Governors here today. He replaced Mr Arun Sarma (Padma Shri) noted Akademi award winning litterateur, who will continue to be with CDPS as a Distinguished Fellow.
Welcoming Dr Das, the outgoing president Mr Arun Sarma said that with his vast leadership experience, Dr Das would be able to give CDPS new direction in the field of academic research and policy studies. CDPS Governing Body Members Mr Wasbir Hussain, Mr PJ Baruah, Mr Prashanta Rajguru, Dr IS Mumtaza and others also welcomed Dr Das.
Dr BK Das had been the Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited and Bharat Oman Refineries Limited in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, he is an Emeritus Professor at Dibrugarh University, a Visiting Professor at Tezpur University and an Adviser at the Centre for Leadership Development in the Assam Administrative Staff College.
An alumnus from IIM Ahmedabad, Dr Das was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by the Gauhati University for his research work titled Impact of Reforms on the Performance and Valuation of the Companies Operating in the Oil sector in India. Dr Das is also an acclaimed poet. His published poetry collections include: may i (1997), life & beyond life (2004), who says (2011) and god in colours (2013).
Taking over as the President of CDPS, Dr Das said that independent research can assist the policy makers because critical inputs can be availed from the research institutes. He also said that there is a big need for interface between the government and research institutes so that the government’s feet in on the ground and policies can be well tuned. “CDPS can play as a catalyst in line with the state government’s development policy”, he added.
